Up to $5,000 back.
Or zero out of pocket if you qualify.
The NHDES PFAS Removal Rebate reimburses New Hampshire homeowners for qualifying filtration systems when PFAS is detected in a private well. For income-qualified homes, the state pays us directly and you pay nothing.
See if your water system is covered.
Do you have a private well or public water?
Five requirements.
The state program is strict about what qualifies. Miss one and the application gets denied. This is why we handle it for you.
- Property is a New Hampshire primary residence
- Served by a private drinking water well (not public water)
- PFAS detected above NH or EPA MCLs in a qualifying lab test
- Lab test performed within 3 years of installation
- No third party (e.g., responsible polluter, landlord) already providing water
What the rebate pays for.
- Point-of-entry (POE) or point-of-use (POU) PFAS treatment systems
- Installation labor and plumbing tied to the PFAS system
- Pretreatment for iron, manganese, radon, or hardness when installed alongside PFAS treatment
- Pre- and post-install PFAS lab testing required for closeout
- Service connection to a public water system (separate $10,000 cap)
What's excluded from this program.
- ×Softeners, UV, or iron filters not associated with PFAS treatment
- ×General plumbing upgrades unrelated to the PFAS system
- ×Costs predating September 30, 2019
- ×Homes already served bottled water or treatment by a responsible party

Free on-site PFAS test
We test at your home and send a sample to an accredited lab using EPA 533 or 537.1 methods. Results back in 7–10 days.
Eligibility + pre-qualification
If PFAS is above NH or EPA thresholds, we pre-qualify you with NHDES. Income-qualified homeowners can get direct-pay pre-approval.
Install + post-treatment sample
System installed in one day. Required post-install PFAS sample is pulled and sent to the lab.
Rebate submission
We compile invoices, spec sheets, and both test panels and file the reimbursement on your behalf.
Check in hand
NHDES targets reimbursement within roughly 8–12 weeks of submission.
About the rebate.
What are the exact PFAS thresholds that qualify?
NH state MCLs are currently PFOA 12 ppt, PFOS 15 ppt, PFHxS 18 ppt, PFNA 11 ppt. Federal EPA MCLs for PFOA and PFOS are 4 ppt. NHDES accepts exceedance of either — your well qualifies if it is above the lower of the two for any compound. Standards are in flux; we will confirm the current threshold at the time of your test.
Is the rebate taxable?
In some cases, yes. NHDES issues a 1099-G to rebate recipients, which means the reimbursement may be federally taxable. We recommend discussing the specifics with your accountant. We will always disclose this before install.
I had a system installed a few years ago — can I still apply?
Yes, if the install was on or after September 30, 2019 and the system meets program requirements. We can help you file retroactively.
What if funding runs out?
The program has paused before when appropriations were exhausted. It was reinstated September 9, 2024 and remains active. We will never promise a rebate before confirming funding availability at the time of your install.
Is there an official NHDES "approved contractor" list?
No — there is no official list. Any contractor can install a qualifying system. What matters is that we understand the paperwork, file it correctly on your behalf, and have done it hundreds of times.
What does "income-qualified" mean in practice?
Homeowners at or below 80% of Area Median Income (as defined in HUD 24 CFR Title 24) can request pre-approval, in which case NHDES pays us directly and you pay nothing out of pocket. For most NH counties, a family of four qualifies up to roughly $90,000–$105,000 in household income.
Program funded by the NH Drinking Water & Groundwater Trust Fund. Funding is limited. First-come, first-served.
